Dan Sommers

July 29, 1933 — July 6, 2017

Dan H. Sommers passed away peacefully on July 6, 2017.  He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Kenneth W. and Nola H. Sommers on July 29, 1933.

Dan spent his early years living in SLC and then moved to Morgan.  In 1951, he graduated from Morgan High School where he excelled in all sports and was student body president.  Dan attended the University of Utah where he played baseball.  He served in the Army during the Korean War.

On July 6, 1954, Dan married Shirley Randall in the Logan Temple.  They made their home in Morgan and were blessed with two sons, Scott and Russ.

Dan spent many years working on the Sommers’ family mink farm.  In doing so, he played a huge part in helping many family members learn a good work ethic, similar to his own.

Dan’s career at the local cement plant began as a summer job and he was later hired full time. He retired as a production and maintenance manager and worked at the plant for 40 years.

Dan loved all sports, but especially: golf, baseball, and all types of horse racing.  He had a passion for hunting with his family and was an avid gun enthusiast.

In his younger years, Dan loved spending time at Como Springs ice skating, roller skating, and swimming.

Dan was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he had many callings.  He had a strong testimony of the gospel.

Dan is survived by his son, Russ; granddaughter, Shantry; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and best friend, Rae Dell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken & Nola Sommers; wife, Shirley; son, Scott; and brothers, Dick and Butch.
