MORGAN – Paul Raymond Stuart, age 100, passed away early Saturday morning June 15, 2013 at the Family Tree Assisted Living in Morgan, Utah. He was born on January 28, 1913 in Morgan, to Charles William and Ann Wadsworth Stuart. Paul grew up in Morgan, and was a life-long resident of Morgan. He married Kathleen Adams on January 16, 1941. She passed away in 2001. He worked for Del Monte Corp., for 41 years. After retiring from Del Monte, he then worked for Pacific Chromolox part-time for 16 years.

He also farmed throughout the years, raising potatoes and cabbage. Paul was active in politics for several years. He served as Morgan City’s Mayor for nine years and was a Morgan County commissioner for nine years.

The love of his life was his wife and his family. They meant the world to him. He was so proud of every one of them that he would do anything for any of them.

Some of the hobbies he enjoyed as a young man included: baseball, basketball and boxing. He pitched for the National CCs, taking the championship in Pocatello, Idaho in 1935. He also pitched for the Morgan County team for quite a few years. He was known throughout the community as “Sharkey,” possible due to his wicked curve ball. Not only did he enjoy playing the game himself, but he enjoyed teaching many youngsters the game as well. He was instrumental in organizing Little League baseball and took his team to the regional playoffs in Pocatello. He was fortunate to have made lifelong friendships with these young people. Paul was also delighted to have been involved with the writing of the baseball history portion of The Morgan County History Book.

Paul and his brother T.J. taught young men from Morgan the sport of boxing, many of whom became successful in advanced levels of the sport.

Paul is survived by his five children and their spouses: Roger Stuart, Lana (LaMon “Poke”) Preece, Pat (Marvin) Dawson, Stan (Julie) Stuart all of Morgan; and Ron (Denise) Stuart of Henefer. He is survived by 11 grandchildren: Wynn, Sherraine, Shantelle, Darin, Danae , Carrie, Brian, Dave, Shalin, Tom , Kelli; 19 great grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen, his parents Charles and Ann Stuart, his four brothers: Verde, T.J., Charles Jr. and Norris; and two sisters: Maye and Catherine.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rock Church in Morgan. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 45 W. 200 N., Morgan and also at the church on Thursday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
